Civil Air Patrol Celebrates Achievements at Annual Dining Out

JBMDL (Jan 12, 2019) – The McGuire Composite Squadron recently held its annual Dining Out at the Community Activities Center to recognize the accomplishments of its members. More than 70 cadet and senior members, families and friends attended the event.

The squadron’s color guard opened the evening with the presentation of the colors followed by traditional military courtesies, toasts, and recognition of those who gave their lives in service to our country through the MIA/POW missing man table. There was also some fun as the cadet commander, C/1st Lt Peter Toth Jr., led the group in the grog bowl ceremony.

Brig. Gen. William “Bill” Knight, Vice Commander, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst was the keynote speaker. Other honored guests included: NJ Group 225 Commander Maj Julio Pastoriza and members of the Army Air Forces Historical Association®.

 AAFHA members Christopher Hartney, Albert Parisi and Wayne Placek gave a presentation about Maj Thomas B. McGuire, one of the top combat pilots in U.S. Air Force history. The Fort Dix Army Air Force Base was renamed McGuire Air Force Base in 1948 in his honor.

 Group 225 Commander, Maj Pastoriza, Squadron Commander Maj Bill Petzinger and C/1st Lt Toth led a promotion ceremony for cadets as well presented awards to cadets and senior members for their achievements and contributions to the squadron.

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 80 lives annually. CAP’s 61,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. In addition, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to over 26,000 young people between the ages of 12-18 participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs. The McGuire Composite Squadron meets every Monday evening at 3412 Neely Road.
