McGuire Squadron Members Earn Promotions and Awards During Virtual Meeting

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST (April 6, 2020) – Seven Civil Air Patrol cadets and three senior members in the McGuire Composite Squadron recently earned CAP achievements and received promotions in rank in a virtual ceremony held over Zoom.

Cadet Joseph Podesta successfully completed the second phase of the cadet program and was promoted to Cadet Second Lieutenant. He received the Brig Gen Bill Mitchell Award, given in honor of Maj Gen William "Billy" Mitchell, former Deputy Chief of the Army Air Service and military aviation visionary.

Cadet McKenzie Keedy was promoted to Cadet Master Sergeant for successfully completing Achievement 5 in Phase II of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program and received the Charles Lindbergh Award. The award was named after the legendary aviator Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo, non-stop, across the Atlantic Ocean, aboard the "Spirit of St. Louis." in 1927. 

For successfully completing Phase I of the Civil Air Patrol cadet program, Cadet Jake Cahill was promoted to Cadet Staff Sergeant and received the Wright Brothers Award. The award is named in honor of the Wright Brothers who were inventors known as aviation pioneers and achieving the first powered flight.

Cadets Charles Durr and William Mares received the Mary Feik Achievement for successfully completing Achievement 3 in Phase I of the cadet program. They both were promoted to the grade of Cadet Senior Airman. The award was named in honor of Mary Feik, a Civil Air Patrol colonel and an American aviation engineer, mechanic, pilot, instructor and aircraft restorer.  


Cadets Margaret Achanzar and Kaya Kraft were promoted to Cadet Airman First Class for successfully completing Achievement 2 in Phase I of the cadet program. They received the Gen. Arnold Achievement Award which was named after General "Hap" Arnold, first U.S. Air Force Commander.

The following senior members were promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant: George Cahill, Philip Hendrickson and Steven King.

Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force.
