McGuire Squadron plans virtual open house

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE DIX LAKEHURST (May 18, 2020) – Learn about everything the Maj Thomas B. McGuire Composite Squadron, a local unit of Civil Air Patrol, has to offer! Attend a virtual open house on 1 June 2020, 6:30 p.m. Advance registration is required: https://mcguirevirtualopenhouse.eventbrite.com .

The online event is designed for students, ages 12-18, and adults who are interested in learning about Civil Air Patrol’s unique missions for America which include Aerospace, Emergency Services and Cadet Programs.

During the open house prospective members will hear first-hand about:

  • Our 16-step cadet program that includes aviation and aerospace activities, leadership and teamwork experiences
  • Cyber education and cybersecurity as well as other science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines.
  • Flying planes and gliders
  • Earning rank and awards
  • Participating in color guard
  • Launching rockets
  • Encampment and more

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 57,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 90 lives in fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counterdrug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs.
