Two McGuire Cadets Receive ‘Zoom’ Promotions

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST (Oct. 26, 2020) -- Civil Air Patrol’s Maj Thomas B. McGuire Composite Squadron promoted and recognized two cadets for their achievements during the squadron’s recent promotion night over the Zoom platform.

 The following cadets earned promotions with accompanying awards in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program:

·       Cadet Margaret Achanzar promoted to Cadet Technical Sergeant, the sixth enlisted grade. The grade accompanies the Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker Achievement.

·       Cadet Alexander Kurynow promoted to Cadet Airman, a grade that indicates the completion of the first of 16 achievements. The grade accompanies the Gen. J. F. Curry Achievement.

 Both cadets are residents of Hamilton, NJ.

 Cadets in the Civil Air Patrol can expect a rigorous program of self-study and applied leadership opportunities, regular classes and projects on aviation and aerospace, a character development program that focuses on living CAP’s core values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect, as well as a focus on a drug-free lifestyle, and a fitness program that focuses on developing life-long fitness habits.

 Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 80 lives annually. CAP’s 60,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. In addition, CAP plays a leading role in aerospace/STEM education, and its members serve as mentors to over 25,000 young people participating in CAP’s Cadet Programs.
